From alpha mattes to HDR
The new tools cover a range of VFX tasks. Alpha Gen pulls soft mattes with partial transparency from footage shot without a green screen. Refine and Restore works on archival footage. The updated SDR to HDR IC-LoRA rebuilds highlight range and outputs 16-bit EXR for the grade. Native HDR keeps the dynamic range you shot. Doug and Mohamed discuss how these help artists bring footage into compositing and keep working with it in familiar tools.
Tiled processing for high-resolution video
One highlight is Native Resolution, a tiled workflow for refining footage at high resolution. Each tile overlaps its neighbor, and the blend happens at every denoising step, so the tiles resolve into one image. In the demo, Doug takes an HD loom plate to 8K HDR and checks the highlight range in Nuke.
Tools artists can adapt
The discussion also covers open weights and fine-tuning. Mohamed points out that Alpha Gen is an IC-LoRA trained on rendered footage with clean alpha, and asks what stops a studio from training its own for the data it needs. The aim is to support the creative process: these workflows handle specific steps, and artists guide and refine the final shot.
