Higgsfield introduces Mangaka, a tool that turns ideas and scripts into manga, comics, and webtoons. It develops the story, creates characters, and illustrates chapters. The workflow supports creative control, page editing, and options for exporting or publishing projects. This guide covers how Mangaka works, its settings and editing tools, pricing, and how to turn an idea into a finished manga.
What Is Mangaka?
Mangaka is an agentic tool for making manga, comics, and webtoons. A story starts as a short description or as a finished script, and the agent develops the plot, creates the cast, and draws the chapters one after another. Higgsfield is the generative platform for creative production, with 35+ models and tools, and Mangaka is one of its studios. The plan can be changed, a character's look can be refined, a panel or page can be edited, and generation can be paused at any point.
The tool suits several kinds of projects:
- Manga and comics from a script: upload a PDF or DOCX file of up to 25 MB and get illustrated chapters.
- Stories from a short idea: a line of text is enough for the agent to write the plan.
- Vertical webtoons: 9:16 pages for social media and webtoon platforms.
- Stories with friends in the lead roles: add characters from photos, with names and short descriptions.
- Recreate: adapt an existing manga with your own heroes and a new title.
What Settings Does Mangaka Offer?
Setting | Options |
|---|---|
Style | Black-and-white manga, color manga, comic, webtoon |
Page format | 3:4, 9:16, 2:3 |
Number of chapters | Up to 30 |
Chapter length | Short (20 pages), medium (30 pages), long (40 pages) |
Language | English, Kazakh, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi |
Mode | Auto or Manual |
Characters from photos | A photo, a name, and a short description |
Export | PDF, CBZ, PNG pages, or webtoon |
The project length and page format can be changed after generation begins, without starting over. Changing the language translates the dialogue and fits it back into the speech bubbles.
How Does Mangaka Work?
Mangaka covers the path from the first idea to a finished chapter in three stages.
Analyze. In about five minutes, the agent turns the idea into a plan for the series: the plot, the genres, the tone, a list of episodes with titles, the characters, the locations, and the key props. The plan can be reviewed and corrected before moving on.
Cast. The Cast & World screen collects every character, location, and prop in the tabs All, Characters, Locations, and Props. A character is created from a description or a photo, and its look can be refined before any chapter is drawn. The approved look is reused, so a character stays recognizable across chapters.
Generate and read. The agent draws the chapters in order and shows the time and the credits spent, with pause and stop available. Chapters open for reading as soon as they are ready, so reading can start before the series is finished.
In Auto mode, the agent generates the cast and the chapters on its own. In Manual mode, characters, locations, and props are generated separately, and each step is checked before the next one.
How Do You Create Your First Manga?
Step 1: Open Mangaka. Go to higgsfield.ai and select Mangaka from the top menu.
Step 2: Describe your idea. Type the story into the Describe your idea field. For example: "A young lighthouse keeper discovers that the lantern guides ships between worlds. Each night a ship from a different world arrives, and each one carries a request." To work from a finished script, choose Upload script and add a PDF or DOCX file.
Step 3: Choose the style and the format. For this example: black-and-white manga, a 3:4 page, five short chapters, and English. Add a character from a photo if the story needs a specific look.
Step 4: Pick the mode. Manual suits a first project, since the cast can be checked before the chapters are drawn. Auto generates the cast and chapters automatically, with options to pause or stop generation.
Step 5: Generate and review the plan. Click Generate. The Series written screen shows the plot, the episodes, the characters, the locations, and the props. Review them, then select Continue to cast.
Step 6: Prepare the cast. Generate each character, location, and prop, or use Generate all cast, then select Continue to production.
Step 7: Read, edit, and export. Read the chapters as they appear. To change something, open a panel to redraw it, reframe it, or rewrite its text, or describe a change to a whole page in the Describe how to edit image field and select Edit image. Finished work can be downloaded as PDF, CBZ, PNG pages, or a webtoon, or published on Higgsfield with Publish.
Start From a Template With Recreate
Mangaka also includes a Templates library with stories across romance, fantasy, sci-fi, drama, and other genres. Examples include It Was Always You, a fantasy romance; There Were More of Us, a sci-fi drama; and Main Character: Day One, a supernatural psychological story.
Each template offers two options: Read to explore the original manga and Recreate to adapt it. Recreate allows characters to be replaced using reference photos, the title to be changed, and further adjustments to be described in a prompt. Templates provide an existing story to personalize without writing a new premise or uploading a script.
Mangaka Pricing
Mangaka runs on Higgsfield credits, and the interface shows the cost of each action and the credits already spent. There is no single fixed rate for a manga, since the price depends on the length, the number of chapters, and the edits made.
Action | Credits | Approx. Cost |
|---|---|---|
Character | 4 | $0.20 |
Location | 4 | $0.20 |
First chapter (30 pages) | 30 | $1.47 |
Additional chapter (30 pages) | 30 | $1.47 |
Single-page edit | 1 | $0.05 |
Approximate costs are calculated using a $49 plan with 1,000 credits, equivalent to $0.049 per credit. Dollar amounts are rounded to the nearest cent.
What Are 5 Tips for Better Mangaka Stories?
1. One clear premise. A story built on one strong idea gives the agent a plot it can follow through every chapter. A focused first manga is easier to review and refine.
2. Review the cast before production. Check characters, locations, and props on the Cast & World screen before generating chapters. This helps establish a consistent visual direction early.
3. A script for more control. A finished script gives the most control over the pacing and the dialogue, and a short idea gives a first draft to shape.
4. Edits that match the problem. A single panel is redrawn on its own, a page is edited with a description, and a bubble is added and applied with Add bubble and Apply lettering. A bubble appears on the page only after lettering is applied.
5. Rights for every upload. Only upload scripts and photos that you have the right to use. Content in Mangaka is subject to safety filters and Higgsfield’s Terms of Use.
